As part of its five-year anniversary celebration, Art Beyond the Glass is expanding to events outside Los Angeles for the first time. Founding Chicago board members Elizabeth Mickiewicz, Laura Kelton and Kristina Howald are thrilled to announce that the inaugural Art Beyond the Glass: Chicago is taking place on Sunday, August 14 at Fulton Market Kitchen in the West Loop.

Conceptualized and designed by Daniel Alonso, Fulton Market Kitchen is inspired by the 1980s NYC art scene and the Wynwood Walls in Miami. Acting as both a restaurant and functional art gallery, FMK offers a truly unique experience, allowing guests to enjoy food, drink and art all in one place - making it an ideal venue for the first Art Beyond the Glass in Chicago.

FMK is part art gallery, part cocktail bar and part restaurant. Chicago Magazine describes FMK as "a work of art in and of itself." FMK boasts one of the West Loop’s most innovative cocktail programs, helmed by bar manager Jess Keene and executed with fresh ingredients and small batch spirits from the FMK collection.

The inaugural ABTG CHI is raising funds for ArtReach, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing transformative arts education to audiences with limited access. ArtReach believes that creative expression is a fundamental need for all people. Founded in 1990, ArtReach is the non-profit sister of Lillstreet Art Center, one of the largest art facilities in the U.S. ArtReach provides more than 6,000 art experiences per year in ceramics, painting & drawing, recycled art, metalsmithing, textiles and much more.

“Before moving to Chicago, I was part of the Los Angeles bar community and was lucky enough to participate in ABTG II and ABTG III,” says Mickiewicz.  “I was totally bummed out when I was unable to attend ABTG IV, and that feeling is what sparked my desire to bring the event to Chicago. I missed being a part of something so original and inspiring, and I knew taking it National was always part of the plan. Laura, Kristina and I jumped at the chance to be the founding Chicago board members.”

Chicago’s top bartenders are participating in ABTG, including: Liz Pearce (The Drifter), Danny Shapiro (Scofflaw), Cristiana DeLucca (Formento’s), Julieta Campos (The Berkshire Room/Queen Mary), Lisa Palmer (The Broken Shaker), Sarah Syman (Beacon Tavern), Alexis Tinoco (The Aviary), Miranda Breedlove (Bad Hunter/Federales), Egor Polonskiy (Untitled Supper Club), and Julia Momose (GreenRiver).

Exhibiting and performing bartender artists include: Katie Astrauskas (MONEYGUN), Richard Beltzer (The Drinkingbird/Bad Hunter), Jess Keene (Fulton Market Kitchen), Trevor Alberts (The Broken Shaker), and Laila Grainawi (Beacon Tavern).
